SIMPLE WOMAN'S DAYBOOK

My own version of the Simple Woman's Daybook for today:

Outside my window...it's dark, 'cause I'm so late getting my post done today.

I am thinking...JUNE starts tomorrow...JUNE!  Where did May go so quickly, and why was she in such a hurry to scurry away from me?

I am thankful for...my sister getting a good report from some tests she had earlier this week due to pain in her legs.  Now, on to the test round of testing.

From the kitchen...there were leftovers served tonight since I was busy babysitting this afternoon...thank goodness I had some 'easy to thaw' entrees in the freezer and several side dishes already prepared.

I am creating...a crocheted newborn outfit for a friend who is expecting in July...a little girl, to be exact.  So eager to see and meet her.

I am reading...nothing...having a hard time getting my reading mojo going these days.

Around the house...are bags of yarn I need to consolidate into the containers I purchased to go under the guest bed.
On my MP3 player this week...GOD IS IN CONTROL...don't remember the singer.

One of my favorite things:  Peach tea...so refreshing during these hot May/soon-to-be-June days.
One of my least favorite things...is waking in the middle of the night to go potty, returning to bed and realizing my legs are hurting and now I can't go back to sleep, uuuuuuuggggghhhh!

A Simple Grace Note: a fan blowing the air conditioning into my direction
My simple devotion:
As much as David was a sinner, God was a forgiver, so David threw himself on God’s mercy. And that’s what God gave him—not begrudging forgiveness, but lavish cleansing. If you think you’re beyond forgiveness, or if you’re trying to earn your way back to God, take a lesson from David. Throw yourself on God’s grace. He will forgive. Psalm 51     (Women's Daily Devotional, NIV, Bible Gateway)

A Picture to Share:  Babysat my great niece and nephew today...did we have any fun??  You decide..

WEDNESDAY HODGEPODGE

Joining Joyce and the other HODGERS…
1. When the children of today grow up, what do you think they'll say about this period in time? What do you most hope they remember?
They’ll be confused about the meaning of the word ‘reality’…t.v. has completely changed that word’s meaning, I believe.  I can only hope they have parents who kept their viewing time to a minimum by being in charge of their households.

2. National Teacher's Day is celebrated in the US of A on the first Tuesday in May, this year May 7th...share how a particular teacher positively impacted you.
One of my college professors constantly reiterated the importance of a ‘smile’ in the workplace…even when things are not ‘happy’.  Putting her teachings into practice opened many doors for me, soothed tensions during stressful situations and helped me throughout 23 years of workplace peaks and valleys.

3. What's a dish your mama made, that if set in front of you today would whisk you right back to childhood?
My mother’s grilled t-bone steaks with Daddy’s home-made bbq sauce … medium rare juiciness with slightly over-grilled edges that crunched … served with buttery mashed potatoes and sweet LeSeur peas…Saturday nights were always my favorite meal because of these steaks coming in from the charcoal grill.

4. Mother May I was a game we played when I was growing up...no pieces, parts, or plugs required. What games from childhood do you remember loving that were also pieces, parts, and plug-free?
Red Light, Green Light (“It” stood up front with back turned to us, everyone else stood many yards back in a row.  When “It” called green light, we would sneak forward until they said “red light” and we had to STOP.  First to touch “It” was the new “It”…was one of my favorites because everyone got to play and rarely did anyone get hurt.

5. Besides your own mother, tell us about a woman who influenced you as a child?
My mother’s best friend, Kitty, was a wonderful example of a woman who raised four kids, cleaned people’s homes out of kindness, always had something yummy to bring us, and laughed more than any other woman I knew.  She and my mom had great times together while being Moms to their kids (thereby teaching me to work, play and laugh with your kids before they’re gone).

6. Mamma Mia! What's the best play or musical you've ever seen?
WICKED at Atlanta Fox Theatre…phenomenally talented artists and a twist at the end I wasn’t expecting…thoroughly enjoyed it (and still love to hear the soundtrack)

7. What are three smells that make you feel nostalgic?
Steaks on the Grill, of course
Jergen’s almond/cherry Hand Lotion (my Granny’s fragrance)
Vintage Glass Jergens Lotion Bottle 1950's Jergens Ribbed Glass Lotion Bottle 6.5 fluid oz.
Mennen Aftershave (Daddy’s ‘everyday’ smell)

8.  Insert your own random thought here.
Rain continued throughout Saturday…even though there was a wedding planned in the middle of a field northeast of Atlanta…
alternate plans slowly became the order of the evening…rain boots, umbrellas and mud-stuck vehicles demanded attention…
a new venue became the beginning of an adventure…the bride and her Scot-kilted son…
blessed by our Lord for many years to come, we pray.
