PROJECT 365…week nine

Week 9…come join us over at Sara’s.

Have you ever made waffles using canned cinnamon rolls? 
They are so good, as long as you cook them on a lower waffle setting.  I found that the cinnamony-sugar tops would adhere themselves to the waffle iron if it was too hot. 

Very quick, and no mixing required…just pop them out of their packaging, spray your waffle iron and set them on the ‘low’ waffle setting…once the steam begins to settle, they are ready to lift out, add butter and top with your confectioner’s sugar or maple syrup.

An unexpected visitor stopped by one day this week…



He was VERY fast when he decided to slither away from the front porch.



Storms clouds were moving in when I walked out to the mailbox on Friday…this was the storm cell moving in that caused so much damage from here up through Indiana…


Prayers are still going out for those impacted by the storms…

Pork chops in Chablis-glazed mushroom gravy, lima beans and ‘old timey’ pear salads were our dinner one night this week…

I thought they were very pretty on my ‘fruit of the spirit’ cutting board

Finally, I enjoyed getting some shots of my Bradford pear trees that are budding/blooming about two weeks too early…

We're expecting some ‘freezing’ weather tonight and I'm afraid it will put a bad mojo on these little pretties.

I added new flowers to my Fall door decoration...$4 worth of flowers from THE DOLLAR STORE...I liked the new color the flowers brought against the dark door.  Later I made "eggplant" roll ups with leftover 'turkey marinara/angel hair'...it was deeee-lish, even if I do say so for myself.

Thursday, October 6

I've been putting one or two Fall decorations out each day or so.  On Thursday my little "thrifty" kitties came out to play for the season.  I got them each for $.50...I love the attitudes they seem to be displaying.  I've named them "Stretch, LazyBoy and WhoDat"...and Hubs isn't allergic to these little guys, hahah!

Friday, October 7

We celebrated our 22nd wedding anniversary eating at one of our local Italian restaurants...then, when we got home we exchanged some gifts...Hubbie was sweet to give me these...(this is a pic from the store's website)...mine are actually a prettier deep blue with deep green in the stones; they look like see-through little worlds...I'll get another picture some time so you can see their color better.

Saturday, October 8

I found some really cute kitchen towels at the grocery store and decided they were the colors I needed on the fireplace mantle

This afternoon I finally had time to make the cake I had intended to make on Friday...a chocolate Mexican Pound Cake...dark chocolate and a little cinnamon make this one a winner to me.

finished edging and joining three place mats...bought @ the thrift store....turned them over to the shawl ministry on Tuesday morning.

 

7.6.2011

Decided to use the manicotti pasta that had been in my pantry for a while...it's nice to be able to put together a meal from 'what you have' and not have to go to the store in all this heat.

7.8.2011  Skoot and I had to drop by the store on our way to BS&K's  to make sushi and I had to get 'crab'. 

The last shuttle launch was counting down on the radio, so we sat and listened as the LAST shuttle mission took off into the heavens.

I watched the first moon walk live, when I was 9; and now to hear the final journey, I was pretty sentimental.  I worked with engineers who helped on these projects and they've told me the hours and hours of beta testing, practicing and re-work that goes into making these flights successful.

God Bless America!  It was AWESOME ... my cousin was in person watching and taking this picture.  Thanks again, Heather!

Skoot and her daddy were busy all day stripping and sanding furniture out of our basement (for her university apartment later this year). 

I can't wait to see it after they get the new stain and hardware completed.

busy working on joining some pieces someone crocheted and donated to us...i chose a leftover yellow thread to contrast the blue with an extra pop

my fridge has changed its mind and decided it needs to be a freezer.  don't ask me why...maybe it's not liking 'fridge' wages in this down economy.

i've always heard they are colder the more food you keep in them...and i guess that's true

At first it was my lettuce that crunched like breaking glass as i starting tearing it for a salad...i ended up throwing most of it away.

i adjusted the thermostat and it seemed to help some, even though i discovered the celery was like icicles and the mayo was rock-hard frozen

a day later, i saw that a few of my eggs looked 'cracked', literally; I discovered this:

finished another 'piecing' before heading to the doc for my yearly physical.

i was meeting a new internist and was a little eager and anxious, so i kept my hands busy until the appointment.

Friday the hubs took the day off and he spent his day shopping for some 'electronics' the girl child will need at college

i had fun doing three loads of laundry just before i attacked the "fridge with multiple personalities"...it was definitely 'overdue

7/2

after a cup of coffee, i settled in my chair to begin working on my last 'pieced shawl'

...there was also some watching of the women's Wimbledon finals and men's doubles

This one was a little more of a challenge...I had found 3 crocheted place mats while thrifting a few weeks back...and this past Tuesday while i was at the church, i was able to find a matching thread for edging and joining

Each place mat was pretty tightly woven (probably machine crocheted) ...the hook getting through the edging was the toughest part of this project. 

The joining was a breeze after i edged them, then i added a double crochet edging around the entire piece.

total cost:  $.75...yes, 75cents!

it's so nice to be able to spend a 'little' and 'get a lot' ...what do you think? 

I'll keep looking for pieces whenever i thrift...it saves soooo much time, too.

SUNDAY, 6/19  HAD A GREAT VISIT WITH MY MOTHER AND STEPDAD (HE WAS STARTING AT A NEW APPOINTMENT...)

6/21  ENJOYED SOME GREAT HOMEMADE SUSHI WITH BS&K...WE ARE DEFINITELY DOING THIS AGAIN SOON

6/22 & 23  WORKED ON THE FLOWERS FOR THE EAR/HEADBAND I MADE...ENJOYING MAKING THEM A LOT!  THE CABLE PATTERN ON THE HEADBAND ISN'T PERFECT BUT I'VE GOT IT DOWN SO THAT THE NEXT TIME I'LL REALLY NOT HAVE TO LOOK AT THE PATTERN.

SKOOT AND I MET THE NEWEST MEMBER OF OUR FAMILY...MY NEPHEW'S SON, RYAN, IS NOW 13 WEEKS OLD AND WHAT A SWEETY HE IS...HE WASN'T FEELING GOOD THAT DAY THOUGH, TUMMY ACHE, WE THINK.

WHILE BRUSHING MY TEETH THIS MORNING A HUGE SOUND RUMBLED IN MY CLOSET...SOUNDED LIKE SOMEONE HAD JUMPED THROUGH THE ROOF.  WHEN I CHECKED ON WHAT HAD HAPPENED, I FOUND THIS.  AFTER I PICKED UP ALL THE STUFF AND SEPARATED IT INTO STACKS ON THE BED, HUBS PUT UP NEW SUPPORTS AND RE-ATTACHED IT TO THE WALL...

THERE, THAT'S BETTER!

PROJECT 365...amidst the migraines and bird grain

Joining Sara and the others...

This 22nd week of 2011 has been a week of many migraines for this blogger...I can NEVER figure out what brings them on; but these have been haunting me, sneaking up on me and then deciding to stick around for a while.  I didn't even think of my camera until Thursday.  Seems hard to believe it's been a year...

 ...yes, a year ago today, skoot was on her way to the arena for her class's graduation ceremony. 

Since then, I guess you could say I've 'gone to the birds'...emptynest Mom's instinct to watch over something, anything, just to keep myself busy. 

5/26  Thursday afternoon the bird feeder got VERY busy...I believe they were getting some food because they knew the storms were coming (cardinals, chickadees)

and our state bird, the brown thrasher...this is the FIRST time I've captured one in a photo

Thursday evening blew in with thunderstorms and some rough weather just south of us; a couple of people were killed by a falling tree down close to our governor's mansion.

5/28, Saturday brought a

a beautiful sunset (I had been watching the NCAA women's softball super regionals and the camera man zeroed in on the 'Georgia sunset' from Athens, so I quickly ran outside to see if ours mimicked it...not exactly, but it was still pretty)

Praying all our graduates begin to embrace their responsibilities as young adults and take on their next God-led endeavors...may they each keep that relationship first and foremost.
