THANKFUL THURSDAY...pouring our oil

Resting on His Word...immersing myself ... gleaning what I'm missing on my own...wrapping up in Him (instead of what's written on the dry-erase board  TO DO list.  Some of those items might just have to change.)

Couldn't you just hear Mr. Chamber's Scottish brogue ...spoken with rare insight and great expression. WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT HIS REMINDING US TO BE 'ANTI-SELF'?  

(ANTI-self...selfless, thinking of others first...Wow, How does that go over with today's world?  TV commercials tell me to get the latest computer, taste greatness of the newest lite beer, immerse myself in the hookups and heartbreaks of people baring their relationships on 'shock' TV, like 'Jerry Bring-her" to the stage.)  Who really has time for 'being still' these days?  It is a choice...an action.

What did He say to you as you read the second paragraph?  The picture of Mary pouring her MOST-precious onto the feet of God's Servant, pouring it all out in celebration of His sacrifice.

Measuring that up against my day's plans...grabbing a scoop of life to put memories into my bowl...will they be self-serving or self-giving?  Jesus was trying to get the people to 'be still' and listen to what He was saying...He was about 'Saving' them from the world...hhhhmmm, that still applies today.

What oil do I have to pour out for Him today:...could it be:

• smiles for the check-out cashier who looks as if she hasn't smiled in a month?
• a hug for the widow who lives next door that I have talked with recently?
• or my 'pouring my heart' out to Jesus with my own concern, 'bridled excitement' and emptiness I'm feeling with daughter being so far away in a new college...my gift of 'presence' with the Lord is what Jesus wants FIRST.

4/30 FRIDAY, THOMAS BROWN'S MEMORIAL GOLF TOURNAMENT

HE'S BEEN GONE THREE YEARS NOW...I SOOOOOO MISS HIM!

MY ODDS WERE REALLY GOOD, THERE WERE ONLY FOUR WOMEN PLAYING IN THE TOURNAMENT :)

AFTER 'PLAYING 18', IT WAS HOME FOR A SHOWER,

THEN TO THE CHURCH TO SERVE DINNER/PROVIDE ENTERTAINMENT FOR OUR 'ELDEST SUNDAY SCHOOL CLASS' AT OUR CHURCH...

WHAT A 'BLESSING TO BE A BLESSING' TO THE MOST LOVABLE PEOPLE I KNOW! THE KIDS SO ENJOYED PERFORMING FOR THEM.

ONE OF MY "JAMAICAN ANGELS" WAS ATTENDING...WE SERVE TOGETHER CROCHETING AND KNITTING PRAYER SHAWLS FOR ANYONE NEEDING PRAYER.

WE GOT TO LAUGH AND DANCE TOGETHER BEFORE THE NIGHT WAS FINISHED.

5/1, SATURDAY

THAT 'CRAZY WOMAN' IS CONTINUING TO SEPARATE CLOTHES AND OTHER THINGS INTO 'KEEP', 'GIVE AWAY', AND 'GARBAGE' PILES...

ONE DAY, SHE'LL GET THE LEFTOVERS PUT BACK IN THE CLOSET...

AND ONE DAY, THE BATHROOM RENOVATION WILL BE COMPLETED...ONE DAY.

THIS IS THE GIVE AWAY PILE, SO FAR.

BEING SO TIRED FROM YESTERDAY'S 'OVER DOING' AND TODAY'S CLOSET WORK, I DECIDED TO ORDER 'CUBAN' FOR SUPPER...MY BACK AND LEGS JUST 'COULDN'T' HANDLE STANDING OVER A STOVE TONIGHT.

Sunday 1/31

ONCE the two main colors of my prayer shawl were completed...it was time to start trimming with the beige scallops...took me quite a while but I could see the end of the tunnel for the project.

Monday, 2/1

Hit the grocery store and got a great deal on a boneless pork roast...it was easy getting it ready for the 'crock pot' after searing each side...

Our family likes fresh veggies, especially with a slowly-cooked roast, so I cleaned a large batch of kale...cooked down with onions, bacon and butter...then simmered in broth until wonderfully soft and flavorful. Kale doesn't have as pungent an odor as the other greens.

While the roast was cooking, leftover chicken, tomatoes and olives topped my lunch salad

AFTER lunch, I finished the shawl...(had to make a few pictures so I could remember it)...it will be handed over at the church soon for someone's use on cold days or in cold situations

( NO PICS for February 2nd through the 5th...certainly not my best week for 365...finally today I remembered to pick up my camera.)

Saturday, 2/6

Below is a picture of our sleet that occurred just before lunch today...we came SO CLOSE to getting some snow but unfortunately we didn't get any.

WITH IT BEING SO RAINY AND COLD, A FEW THINGS CALLED MY ATTENTION...LAUNDRY, CLEANING OUT SOME LEFT-OVERS, FIXED BARBECUE SANDWICHES FOR LUNCH. HOW ABOUT A DOUBLE-CHOCOLATE, WALNUT BROWNIE CAKE?? IT'S DENSE...BUT WHAT A MOUTHFUL OF CHOCOLATEY LUSCIOUSNESS :)

Today is especially thankful for our family...and we're THANKFUL INDEED...

My hubby's nephew completed his LAST Combat Patrol Sunday!! wooo hooo!!!! (We celebrate with his mom and dad in knowing they're done and out of harm's way, per se)

Thank you, bloggers, for keeping him in your prayers to our Lord Jesus, who has been and will continue to protect he and his platoon...they've been working together since last April.

Please continue special prayers for the four men and their families who sacrificed EVERYTHING during their time fighting for the continued freedom of the people in that region and in our country's participation for growing their independence. They will be forever missed and forever remembered!

His dedication to freedom was intentional and voluntary.

This past Sunday his commander awarded him a 'Bronze Star Medal' for Meritorious Service and his 'Gold Spurs' for leading a Cav Scout Platoon in combat! May God continue to bless him and his platoon until they're ALL back home safely.

We're eager for your feet to hit American soil, Lieutenant!

SHOW AND TELL FRIDAY...

I wanted to go "flea marketing" today...but, it didn't work out that way. So, I've saved some money by not picking up anything new and I'll show you what I already have in my dining room.

Differently bordered "service plates" from Salem Co. were passed to me from my grandmother. My grandparents owned a small, country diner/Pure gas station. Naturally, they would order large quantities of flour, 'cause Granny made LOTS of biscuits and fed the local farmers before their hard day's work. My mother remembered the plates were given to retailers as thanks for purchasing larger quantities. They came in multiple colors with women, men, and children featured on each plate.

The name, service plates, is very appropriate for the remembrance of my grandparents running their business. Mother said they often fed those who didn't have the money to pay...Granny was not going to turn anyone away from "perfectly good food" she could share with her neighbors. PaPa would write "tabs" for anyone who couldn't quite make the full payment on their gas purchase...they could pay it back next week...and they never ran anything through a credit card reader or telephone line...he wrote it on a little white pad he kept in his pocket.

Papa always smelled like cigarettes and gasoline; Granny smelled of baby powder and biscuits.

I remember running through the creaky screened door into the diner/store to get a "Coke" out of the old drink cooler...the big RED abyss of a Coca Cola refrigerator I'd almost fall over into as I reached for my drink (in the glass bottle) and feel the cold air hit my face (it was the only cold thing around back in the days of NO AIR CONDITIONING). I miss those days.

ILOVE HOW DELICATELY detailed the faces on each plate seem to be. I'm currently looking for some of the same type plates; however, I want the "matching" men plates to go with my "Little Women", ha ha. I keep looking on EBay but so far have not come across what I want to complete my set. Maybe it's meant for me to just cherish the two I have and the memories they hold.
