PROJ365 & FACILITATING FAITH, wk 7

Week 42.

HUBS has been sick with a very bad sore throat/head cold...

and he did something today I've NEVER seen him do.

He drank hot tea.  (my husband doesn't like anything hot to drink, period.)  This was a miracle.

We BOTH had hot-n-sour soup

FACILITATING FAITH, Wk 7
Isaiah 2:4 “…for the earth will be full of the knowledge of the Lord as the waters cover the sea.”

While leading a Bible Study it is important to ‘apply His Word to daily living’, yet being in this world is tough.

Hatred, doubting and disbelief run rampant these days, don’t they?!

We’re so close to all of the doubting and disbelief by simply typing a few words into our computers,  reading newspaper articles, seeing inappropriate television images, hearing speeches of SELF aggrandizement as opposed to believing in God.

Political correctness seems to have ‘overtaken’.  Could it just be another way the ‘fallen one’ disguises Himself to appear palatable?  Many television stations have been adding disclaimers to religious shows, political candidates and even televised religious services.

These things are quickly accessible; but remember, His Word promises wisdom... it will heal our countries and our world.   When we watch his Hands working justly, read His Holy Word to understand Truth, and (in obedience) humbly believe on His Spirit to guide us while sharing His living within us to those we know (or will be meeting).

Think on your actions...
Are you daily giving a ‘disclaimer’ to the world
and being taken in by the disguises?

He died for us.

Let's be giving personal input to the world of what He has and is doing
in our lives by growing our personal faith, sharing good news, pursuing Godly knowledge, self control, perseverance, godliness, brotherly kindness and love.

2 Peter 1:8…11 “If you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ…be all the more eager to make your calling and election sure.”

HODGEYNESS THIS WEDNESDAY

Welcome to this edition of Joyce’s Wednesday Hodgepodge.  Be sure to add your link at the bottom of Joyce's post.

Here are my answers-

1.  Noah Webster was born this week in 1758...(wonder what he’d say about last night’s debate)

I own several dictionaries…softback, hardback, digital…nowadays the digital is getting more use simply because of the ease of going straight there while I’m composing posts or reading articles.

2.  Our public schools ban Halloween celebrations yet call their festivals FALL festivals…and the kids sometimes where costumes.  We typically did them on Saturdays so as NOT to take up school time.

3.  My favorite 'dog' movie as a child was OLD YELLER…
my fav as an adult is MarleyMARLEY AND ME

…sweet stories, both of them.

4. I don’t remember the last somewhere I would describe as 'too quiet'…speaks to our anxiety in this country, methinks.

5. Neat cooking is what I desire…cleaning along the way; now the reality sometimes turns out much differently.

6.I heard about Felix Baumgartner, the skydiver who broke the sound barrier via parachute.  My first thought went straight to the safety issues surrounding that kind of extremism.

I enjoyed hearing MORE the perspective of Dr. Jon Clark, who led his medical team…
Dr. Clark’s wife, Dr. Laurel Clark, was Commander on NASA’s Columbia mission back in the 80’s.  columbia_crew(third from the left in the picture)

His reason for being involved was covered by Katie Couric on her show…loved his perspective; it actually gave this adventure a much better conclusion in my opinion, rather than it just being a thrill for Mr. Baumgartner.

7. FELTERGARB should be a word, but only lives at my house (this is my remembrance of what was said on on the 1978 old Battlestar Gallactica meaning “oh cr*p”…the word they said was FELDERCARB but my ears heard FELTERGARB)…and I still say it incorrectly, actually I like my version better.
I say it when I get frustrated, or hurt a finger.

8. I’m hoping Joyce takes some really GREAT pictures of the leaves; we don’t have much color down here yet.  Have fun, Joyce!

FACILITATING FAITH, wk 6

Reviewing this weekend’s Saturday devotion from the UPPER ROOM, Janet Kerns of Virginia shared one of her favorite pastimes:  riding her bicycle on an old, abandoned, two-lane highway.  Most of her trail is smooth yet she related there have been times when she hit potholes and had to try harder to focus on the road.

For anyone who is facilitating a Bible study, hitting potholes on a trail could also be correlated to hitting roadblocks in Scriptures; those moments when understanding escapes us and we are left wondering if there is a meaning.

One’s first thought might be to look at the bottom of the Bible’s page for other book/chapter references.  In addition, we should remind ourselves to look/read other Bible versions, such as:  21st Century King James, American Standard, Amplified, Common English, The Message, New International(NIV), Today's New International Version.

Study paths that have become too winding, too old-world wordy, etc., can be further understood by reading in one of the other versions.
In fact, THE MESSAGE version of the Bible came about:
  • to capture tone of the text and original conversational feel (of the Greek) in contemporary English.
  • to hear the Scripture in different words/updated expressions to increase understanding.
  • to relay the spirit of original manuscripts/expressions
Did you know:  THE MESSAGE is NOT a study Bible, but rather "a reading Bible" ?
    • verse numbers, which were not in the original documents, are left out of the print version, facilitating easy and enjoyable reading.
    • original books of the Bible were not written in formal language...The Message tries to recapture the Word in the words used today.
Praying focus for each week’s curriculum and His Spirit guiding us through any roadblocks we encounter during our study time.

WEDNESDAY HODGEPODGE, #97

1. Ways I indulge myself:  drink a dolce cinnamon grande @ *bux,
get an American pedicure or
order sushi and walnut-honey chicken for dinner.

2. Having never taken a cooking class, I'm open to any type of class...but I would LOVE to learn how to make a really GOOD 'hot & sour' Chinese soup.

3. The meaning of "being a good citizen"...
taking responsibility for yourself and your family's well being;
paying your own way;
saving for your future and paying off your bills;
reading/listening/talking with others and being up-to-date on issues and 'histories' of candidates so you can participate in this Republic and VOTE with knowledge rather than because of some one's looks;
stepping up and speaking out when you witness illegal activities and helping when needed;
showing up for jury duty.

4.  Political ads irritate me when they center on the negative rather than the positives of their platform....
they DO NOT influence my vote;
my knowledge influences my vote.

5.  I saw something today that makes me glad I'm not a kid again:

http://www.teachthought.com/industry/10-surprising-things-banned-in-schools-today/
 (am I the only one; can people not see that this is RIDICULOUS!??)

6. My least favorite cliche probably is: You can't teach an old dog new tricks...I believe as long as we breathe we can continue to learn.

7.  So far, I've completed about 20% of my overall Christmas shopping and this makes me happy...last year I didn't start until December 1.

8.  My random thought:

I've been contemplating whether or not to let hubs invite friends over to play now that he has retired...

I can just imagine their getting into all kinds of mischief:

John 8:31 "If you continue in my word, then you are truly Disciples of Mine; and you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free."
Blessings,
